Meet Lesley!

Here at Prospect 13, we pride ourselves in being a team that is passionate and proud about our people and relationship.  It’s been a while, so we thought it was time to introduce you to another team member – Lesley, our wonderful PR consultant and expert wordsmith!

Tell us a bit about you?

I have worked in media for 32 years (I demand a recount, I can’t really be that old!) and worked as a journalist, newspaper editor and corporate communications manager before becoming a freelance PR consultant in 2008, from then, I joined the Prospect 13 team in March 2022. I was born and raised on a farm, I’m a graduate of Aberdeen University and my favourite word is: “why?”.

What’s your favourite thing about working in PR?

It’s a huge privilege when a client invites you into their world to help them tell their story. That honour becomes responsibility and it’s so important to listen carefully to each client to understand how they see themselves. That is usually a great starting point for the messages they will take to the media, and spending time talking with clients is always the best way to uncover those wonderful nuggets of information that become interesting stories.

We get to look in on so many amazing businesses and the people who make them tick – they’re all different and all have an interesting story to tell.  Our perspective allows us to help businesses pause and reflect on their successes and celebrate how they navigate challenges.  I am constantly inspired by the businesses I learn about through my work, and the people behind them.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

Family time and being with friends are both massively important to me.  I enjoy cycling, swimming, and reading – when I get the chance!

What is one piece of advice you would give to people starting in PR?

Anything you learn in a classroom should only be part of your learning.  The real stories exist out in the world – get out, meet people, learn from them, and be inspired by them.  In achieving this, the best tool to have at your disposal is curiosity.  Some might call it nosiness but let’s stick with curiosity…

Favourite Prospect 13 memory?

I loved the New Day Awards which Cerri spearheaded during the pandemic.  They were such a brilliant, uplifting initiative and were a proper ray of sunshine illuminating some great projects at such a tough time.  The timing of the awards was perfect in shining a light on some of the amazing work which people managed to carry out during some of the darkest times many of us can remember.

Lesley is a crucial member of our team, her wisdom, diplomacy, way with words and uplifting attitude is always a welcome presence in Prospect 13. We can’t wait to see what more she has to bring to the table!
